Mikron Multistar, the most productive transfer in the world, reaches a rate of 150 cycles/minute and, in 4-cycle, allows a record productivity of 600 pieces/minute. This system, equipped with 24 workstations, is fitted with cam drives that allow similar production rates. Maximum part size ranging up to Ø 35 L65 mm.

The new Multistar NX-24 belongs to the same family, from which it has "inherited" the high number of stations, the high performance spindles and the robust mechanical base. Instead of mechanical cam drives, the newest Mikron’s product is equipped with machining units CNC controlled (up to a maximum of 128 axis). Therefore, it retains high productivity and precision, while becoming so flexible to allow a profitable production even in the case of lots starting from a few hundred pieces.

Productivity record thanks to 44 units working simultaneously

Multistar NX-24, like its "sisters" CX-24 and LX- 24, is equipped with 24 workstations. Each can be equipped with two machining units working simultaneously. The following technical features ensure high productivity:

· Up to 44 units working simultaneously.

· Ability to do simultaneously machining from up to 3 sides per station, from different directions: from above and below, from above and laterally, from below and laterally, and inclined.

· The part can be placed in rotation for turning operations up to 9’000 rpm and can be indexed to axis C, 180° in just 0.1 seconds.

· The table indexing time is only 0.6 seconds.

Flexibility and versatility guaranteed by complete programmability

The shift of production from one lot to another occurs by changing programme and cutting tools. Compared with cam systems, Multistar NX-24 saves a considerable amount of time. It is the ideal answer to the demands of modern manufacturing that requires the splitting of large annual quantities in many small lots of similar pieces. The following features promote flexibility and versatility:

· The dialog interface, specially developed by Mikron, uses support images for an easy and safe change of lot. The easy management of programmes and tools parameters speeds up the corrections. Maintenance activities are automatically scheduled by the system that informs the operator. The control unit recognises and relates each anomaly and allows remote diagnostics.

· The wide availability of units and spindles, specialized for each machining type, together with the high number of stations, allows the complete machining of the part, including special processes such as deep drilling, off-centre CNC recesses, measurements, small assemblies, etc...

· The 3-axis machining units, combined with C axis, permit simultaneous 4-axis machining operations allowing complex milling, turning and 3D deburring.

Even more than Swiss precision: Mikron precision

Mikron Multistar has now set new standards for the accuracy of the parts produced and its repeatability. Several factors play in favour of accuracy:

· The extremely compact and symmetrical construction design nullifies thermal impact, while providing stability and stiffness to the whole system.

· The part is clamped only once and released when it is completely finished.

· The clamping collets, Mikron's unique design, assure a perfect position repeatability of the part in a few µm, and this also after millions of open-close cycles.

· Table indexing repeatability of only ± 2.5 µm

· It’ possible to measure each machined component and do CNC automatic compensations. In this way it possible to compensate tool wear and thermal deviations, allowing the production of parts in extreme tolerances
